Each Mum | Reach Mum | Teach Mum

What is it about being a Mum that completely sweeps you off your feet, makes you fall in love, stay up all night, go days without sleep and send 45 nervous texts... per hour.

"Did you arrive safely, darling?"

Cue teenager..

"Yes, I did. I am still alive and I will be home at the exact time I promised, in one piece."

Mum (completely overlooks the sarcastic tone)

"Ok, darling, well I love you. Don't be afraid to use that karate technique that we practiced yesterday."

Well, I have been a mummy for 15 years and I still do not know.

But what I do know, is that it is not for the faint hearted. I am making over 100 decisions a day, whilst still trying to set an example, run my own life, business, be a wonderful wife, live a so-called best life, cook (and pretend to bake) whilst keeping two meters apart, wearing a mask, cleaning my hands....

It has never been harder to be mum, than it is right now: trolls, racism, sexism, poverty, destruction of the earth through our poor choices... I could go on.

I'll be really honest with you, I would love to tell you that I have super human strength, laser vision and incredible will power. I have none of those things, but I am working on a cloak of invisibility, i think it would help on laundry day, just so I'm nowhere to be found (pahaaahaaa).

But truthfully, the only way I can get through my day (scratch free- kind of) is by praying, worshiping God, reading my Bible and doing my best to get a good nights sleep. I became a Christian (a follower of Christ) back in 2001.

I have made terrible choices my entire adult life, some of which I still think about now. But I have also made some incredibly wonderful choices, here are the three best life changing choices that I have made since I was 16 years old:

1) Becoming a Christian

2) Becoming a Mummy

3) Becoming a Wife

Now, maybe I am using the word "choice" a little loosely, because I am fully aware that are many women, who have had some of the things, that I call privileges or blessings, thrust upon them- but for me these three things have absolutely changes my life for good.

I wasn't forced into Christianity, God chose me, not just me. He also chose you.

My responsibility was to accept that love and all that comes with it.

How is this particular choice at all related to what I have said so far?

I'll tell you, I would not have survived Motherhood, marriage, business or anything else I am involved in without God's help, through faith in Jesus Christ. That's my secret, I thought of all of the things I could tell you, how many courses I have attended, mum hacks, tips (I have loadddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddds).

But in spite of all of that, I could be an award-winning mum (with an apron that has singing butterflies, on it, singing live, like lullabies for the baby, whilst you cook- I'm working on it) but there is nothing more potent and real to me than the love of God (through faith in Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit) at work in my life, it keeps me going.

I imagine you are extremely offended, how can you be so positive at a time like this?

How can you believe in God when the world is decaying at an alarming rate and we are being told where to go and how to behave...

This is the point, my only certainty is that God loves me, that the Bible is true and provides great hope to me on my best and worst days.

I don't know about you but I need hope, right now, I need love, right now, I need strength right now.

I need some good news -LIKE RIGHT NOW.

I cannot rely on anything or anyone to provide those things EXCEPT GOD.

He is immortal, immutable, self-existent, omnipresent, omnibenevolent, omniscient- this simply means He is everywhere, for all time and He will show up for you, if you truly believe- not like a genie, but as God, ultimate ruler and King and Father- the best of Fathers, not absent, not distant, not dead.

Girls, God is not dead (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2528814/)

Now, you can stop reading, if you want to. Maybe you have heard all of this before.

But if you decide to continue you reading, I'll let you in on something: being a Christian is not about following lots of rules and hoping to get into Heaven on some fine day, it actually about giving your life over (out of choice) to someone that you cannot see but you believe really loves and only wants the best for you.

Christianity is the life of God (the Creator) in human beings (that's us). What this means, practically, is that each day, you take steps to get to know this God, through His Word, the Bible (https://classic.biblegateway.com) ,by building a relationship with Him, through faith in Jesus Christ.

In the same way, as soon as your baby is born, in fact from the moment you "know" you spend time getting to know the baby, letting them know that each day

I ask you, then, would you like to be in a relationship with God, the God of the Bible, the God that made this beautiful earth? The God that gave Jesus Christ to us:

John 3:16-18 The Message (MSG)
16-18 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.*

and we (using faith, a bit like electricity, we know it's there because the lights come on) accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and get to know Him each day, as we would our own dear friends, loved ones, a spouse.

In exchange for following Jesus you will receive peace, freedom, joy (that's laughter whilst your awake, peace whilst you sleep), it will be hard, your friends may disown you because you've become "one of us" but guess what even if you have a tough day, you will never be alone again.

Read this prayer along with me:

"Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your life for me and forgiving me of my sins so I can have a personal relationship with You. I am sincerely sorry for the mistakes I've made, and I know I need You to help me live right.

Your Word says in Romans 10:9, "If you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His Power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

I believe You are the Son of God, and I confess You as my Saviour and Lord. Take me just as I am, and work in my heart, making me the person You want me to be. I want to live for You, Jesus, and I am so grateful to You for giving me a fresh start in my new life with You today. I love you, Jesus!"**
